Dogs for Adoption: Hiyas and Missy (just 2 among many others)

This entry is taken from http://www.mefindhome.org/2008/07/dogs-for-adoption-hiyas-and-missy.html.
They also have cats for adoption for those who are a cat person. If you wish to know more, please do not hesitate to visit the site.

Below are two more shelter dog portraits* that I started sharing in 2 of my previous blog posts (Koko, Le-ann, Sammy and Jackie). These dogs are currently looking for their forever homes and are asking our help in their quest.

Hiyas and Missy have been through some trying times (and that's understating it). Hiyas, for instance, has come within a hair's breadth of being in someone's dinner plate! Good thing the dog meat traders transporting them to Baguio were intercepted by the police, which subsequently transferred some of the dogs to the care of PAWS.

Hiyas was only one of around 100 dogs rescued by the police that day and one of the 8 dogs accepted into PARC (which was almost brimming full at the time) to be rehabilitated. Most of the other 7 dogs
have already been adopted except for Hiyas and one other dog.

Hiyas has done good work for the cause by representing the shelter animals and assuming the role of Professor Dog and tagging along with PAWS volunteers in their school rounds--- part of the Humane Education program which basically teaches children about kindness to animals. Below are photos of Hiyas (courtesy of Liza Umayam) in one of those trips.

Hiyas the Professor Dog in her visit to the British School

Hiyas makes one teacher cry upon hearing her story

Missy's story, on the other hand, is a story of abandonment, which I believe is almost as painful as being left for dead in the hands of dog meat traders. Imagine yourself having a good, loving home to call your own and suddenly, one morning you find yourself being hauled to an animal shelter, a totally alien place to you, left to live with total strangers. Like Missy, it will probably take you some time to get over a traumatic experience like that. Good thing Missy has been rehabilitated and is ready to change her destiny. Let's help reverse her reversed fortune by bringing her back to a loving home that will protect her from screwed-up humans (her former guardian's husband threatened to slay Missy because of a domestic dispute; prompting her guardian to bring her to the shelter) and give her the love she deserves.

Do you want to save these beautiful animals from the despair of homelessness? If you do, please call up the shelter ASAP. The number to call is 475-1688. Email philpaws @ yahoo.com or sherwin [at] mefindhome.org for your inquiries.

Please read the adoption procedure: http://adoption.mefindhome.org
Find your way to the shelter: http://parc.mefindhome.org

Please feel free to spread the word around. Copy and re-post as needed.

Thanks for reading and hope to see you at the shelter!

Pose for PAWS pix!!

Yesterday (July 27, 2008 - Sunday), my officemate and I went out to go shopping/ window shopping together. We have planned for that day weeks ago. Our first stop was St. Francis Square. It was my 2nd time going there but it was only her first. So, she was very excited and enjoyed looking around and bought some stuff. As for me, I bought quite a lot (sigh~~ there goes the money). Anyway, it's not as if I didn't have fun.

So for lunch, we headed to Jollibee, which was nearby, and sat beside the window. As we ate. I was looking out the window and wondered how we would proceed to Tiendesitas (we were to meet my friend there). It was raining really bad. Aside from the heavy rain, there was a strong wind as well. So we just sat for a few minutes and luckily, the rained and wind slowed a bit giving us a chance to make a dash for the car. Unfortunately, it didn't save us from getting wet. You see, our umbrella was a very cute one =D

On to Tiendesitas, again, I couldn't help but buy some stuff. We strolled around and waited for my friend. Unfortunately, she hasn't arrived for our meet up time. So, I called her and she told me to meet her in Eastwood instead. That's a good thing since I'm broke!! I couldn't help it. I decided that on that day I would go on a shopping spree. But I guess I spent too much hehehe...

Eastwood City, I'm not really familiar with the place so we couldn't find where the cinema was. Luckily, even with heavy rain, we were able to find people to ask for directions. Finally, we were able to reach the cinema to pick up our Pose for PAWS pictures. When my turn came up, I was shown two shots (of varying sizes). I was thinking which of the pictures to get but in the end decided to get all of them. Well, there goes more bills flying away. Now, am totally bankurpt. Hehe.. But who cares, this is one of the ways I can help PAWS in their mission.

So, here are the pix.

A closer shot of me and Thatcher.

Waiting for more PAWS event =D

Hope you likes!

Wicked - For Good

For Good
from the musical Wicked

GLINDA
I've heard it said
That people come into our lives for a reason
Bringing something we must learn
And we are led
To those who help us most to grow
If we let them
And we help them in return
Well, I don't know if I believe that's true
But I know I'm who I am today
Because I knew you:

Like a comet pulled from orbit
As it passes a sun
Like a stream that meets a boulder
Halfway through the wood
Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
But because I knew you
I have been changed for good

ELPHABA
It well may be
That we will never meet again
In this lifetime
So let me say before we part
So much of me
Is made of what I learned from you
You'll be with me
Like a handprint on my heart
And now whatever way our stories end
I know you have re-written mine
By being my friend:
Like a ship blown from its mooring
By a wind off the sea
Like a seed dropped by a skybird
In a distant wood
Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
But because I knew you:

GLINDA
Because I knew you:

BOTHI have been changed for good

ELPHABA
And just to clear the air
I ask forgiveness
For the things I've done you blame me for

GLINDA
But then, I guess we know
There's blame to share

BOTH
And none of it seems to matter anymore

GLINDA ELPHABA
Like a comet pulled Like a ship blown
From orbit as it Off it's mooring
Passes a sun, like By a wind off the
A stream that meets Sea, like a seed
A boulder, half-way Dropped by a
Through the wood Bird in the wood

BOTH
Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
I do believe I have been changed for the better?

GLINDA
And because I knew you:
ELPHABA
Because I knew you:

BOTH
Because I knew you:
I have been changed for good.

As I was browsing through a friend's friendster's site, I stumbled upon this song which was sung by Lea Salonga and Jennifer Paz. At first, I didn't really notice the music since I was listening to my own set of songs. As soon as I caught the beat, I started searching for the song in YouTube. I found that Lea's and Jennifer's version was not the original and was done by two other broadway artists (Dunno the details yet). Though I haven't seen the musical play, the song was very pleasant to hear, thus, I started downloading "For Good" song =D Now, I simply couldn't help but listen to both versions over and over again.

Here's a link (on YouTube):
Lea's and Jennifer's version

When Man and Woman Became Two Beings

An excerpt from the book Eleven Minutes by Paulo Coelho:

At the beginning of creation, men and women were not as they are now; there was just one being, who was rather short, with a body and a neck, but his head has two faces, looking in different directions. It was as if two creatures had been glued back to back, with two sets of sex organs, four legs, and four arms.

The Greek gods, however, were jealous, because this creature with four arms could work harder; with its two faces, it was always vigilant and could not be taken by surprise; and its four legs meant it could stand or walk at long periods at a time without tiring. Even more dangerous was the fact that the creature had two different sets of sex organs and so needed no one else in order to continue reproducing.

Zeus, the supreme lord of Olympus, said: "I have a plan to make these mortals lose some of their strength"

And he cut the creature in two with a lightning bolt, thus creating man and woman. This greatly increased the population of the world, and, at the same time, disoriented and weakened its inhabitants, because now, they had to search for their lost half and embrace it and, in that embrace, regain their former strength, their ability to avoid betrayal and the stamina to walk for long periods of time and to withstand hard work. That embrace in which the two bodies re-fuse to become one again is what we call sex.

Thoughts:
- At the last paragraph of my excerpt, what came to my mind was "Soulmate". When one half has to look for their lost half and embrace it. (I think I am not alone in this)
- Again at the last paragraph, hmm... so it this the origin of "How Man and Woman Became Two Beings" or "History of Sex"? (hehehe...)

Pose for PAWS, Eastwood, Libis, July 21, 2008 (Sunday)

I had (still having) difficulty pronouncing the title of that event. When we were in Eastwood, I was asking around where the event was being held. I accidentally mentioned PAWS for Pose! hahaha... it's a good thing that they didn't notice *blush blush*

Anyway, on to the event. We arrived there around 4 or 4:30PM. That's coz traffic was a bit slow. Heck, even my friend who came from Baclaran arrived there before we did, to think we only came from Sta. Mesa.

There were quite a number of people, both with their pets and those who don't (as I said, ALL are welcome here). At the entrance, there were 2 receptionist (is that what you call them?) and I inquired how to get our photo/s taken. So she explained it to me and afterwards, I explained it to my bro and barkadas. Unfortunately, they didn't get what I was saying. So, my girlfriend and I just approached the reception booth to get a clearer information. I don't know what is it with today that we can't seem to grasp what they were telling us. They had to explain it thrice (maybe more) to us before my pal understood. Unfortunately, I wasn't listening anymore. I was more interested in surveying the place. So, I just asked what we should do. Har har... Pathetic, am I?

So after paying (395php - quite expensive BUT we don't mind BECAUSE profits will go to the animal shelter), we were about to enter the place, when my pal noticed that there is a booth for "Adopt a Pet". There were 2 dogs (I think) and some cats too. We watched them for a moment then proceeded inside and looked around. There was another booth for souvenirs and some pet stuff. Dragging my friend there, she bought a scarf for her husky, while I bought a t-shirt and a bag for myself (selfish ain't I?).

So we waited for our turn for a photo session and while waiting, we passed our time by looking and taking photos of other people's pets. Majority have dogs with them. Dogs range from aspins (asong pinoy) to purebreed dogs. Some are small, while others are huge. Some fury while others are short coated. I would presume it wasn't only us who are having fun observing, our beloved pets seemed to enjoy it as well. They even beat us at socializing with OUR kind =D

Then, it was our turn to have our photos taken, it wasn't that difficult, since the guys manning it are experts in getting our pets attention to look at the camera. "CHEEZE"!!! I'm excited to see our pictures, unfortunately, it will be released next week... sigh...

Well, that wraps our day and each of us headed our own way.

Note: I won't be posting pictures of pets that I've taken. The reason? Well, this event isn't about our pets, but those pets who are currently living in animal shelters; who are waiting for someone to bring them to a loving home after going through a lot of difficult times. Each animal in this shelter have their own sad story to tell.
Whether they are purebreed or cross breed pets; or
aspins or pusang kalye; those doesn't really matter. What binds them together is that they are ALL LIVING CREATURES NEEDING AND DESERVING A LOVING HOME TO STAY IN. What I regret today is not taking photos of those pets ready for adoption (very guilty). If I had, I would have shared them with you. Maybe, just maybe, there is someone out there needing a company and he/ she just might find that in the animal shelters.

myPond's 7-Day Beauty Blog

One Friday night, my friend invited me to attend an event sponsored by Pond’s. The event was colorful, filled with many people, with exciting games, prizes and gifts. This is where I got my Pond’s Age Miracle trial kit.

SATURDAY
I was excited, but quite skeptical, to use Pond’s Age Miracle. So to straighten things out, I immediately used Pond’s in the morning. Today was a hectic one, having a headache due to lack of sleep last night, I felt stressed. Even so, since I started using Pond’s, I couldn’t help but feel happy and confident.

SUNDAY
During my rest day, even if I was still having a headache, I went out to have a little fun with my pals and I’m glad that I did. I met up with my friends and they told me that I looked different. Even if it’s just that, it made my whole day brighter.

MONDAY
It’s that day again when I have to get back to work. People around me are having the Monday blues but I was feeling radiant. A few my officemates even noticed that my complexion became lighter.

TUESDAY
Upon waking up, I stared at the mirror for the longest time and I was in high spirits with what I saw. My face has a certain rosy-ness in them, which was absent before.

WEDNESDAY
I went out to have my picture taken for my passport renewal. Upon receiving the set of pictures and showing it to my pals, the pictures seemed to have vanished one by one. They were asking what my secret was for me to age YOUNGER. I proudly told them that I am using Pond’s Age Miracle.

THURSDAY
I was scheduled to meet my cousin today. Upon seeing each other (after a year), she gushed at me the moment she saw me. She exclaimed that I have a certain glow in me. I immediately told her it was because of Pond’s Age Miracle. Trusting my word for it, she immediately bought one for herself.

FRIDAY
It was Friday night again and my girlfriends and I met up at MOA. I noticed that my girlfriends seemed to have a certain look in them. Sitting next to my best friend, I noticed people staring at us. Getting curious, I asked them if I’m missing anything, they simple laughed and told me that they became Pond’s user as well. I guess we were simply seeing the fruits of being a Pond’s user.

SATURDAY
This marks the 7th day of me using Pond’s Age Miracle. I must say that I am very satisfied with the results I am seeing now: fairer skin tone; less spots; rosier cheeks; finer and firmer skin; in totality, having a skin which defies time and logic. Aside from visible results, I gained more confidence as the day passed by. Every day upon waking up, I was very happy and excited as to what the day has in store for me. To my skepticism and my old beauty products: You're totally out of the window!

I finally found the FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH, thank you POND’S!!!

Pose For PAWS

SAY “CHEESE” !!!

Are your pets ready for their close-ups? If so, then head on down to Eastwood Central Plaza on July 20 (Sun) for the launch of “POSE FOR PAWS”. Anytime from 1-6PM, you and your pet can get your portraits taken in our unique photo booths manned by professional photographers.

Proceeds from all portraits purchased will go to the PAWS Animal Shelter which houses over 100 dogs and cats rescued from cruelty and neglect. The facility is solely dependent on donations and fund raising activities such as this to keep it running.

Last year, despite its limited funding, the PAWS Animal Shelter was able to spay-neuter 195 animals, adopt out 30 dogs & 28 cats as well as rescue 42 animals in distress.

“POSE FOR PAWS” is made possible with the help of Eastwood City, Frontline, McDonald’s and the Philippine Star Pet Life Section.

Pond's event at TasteAsia

A week before the Pond's event, my friend invited me to accompany her to which I agreed immediately. I must say, I have no regrets in doing so. The atmosphere was overwhelming. The moment we arrived I thought, WOW red carpet!! What a special and warm welcome! And it didn't stop there. The place was nicely decorated, it was exquisite. It would make any girl swoon just at the sight of the place. Aside from that, the event itself was a lively one. Even if we were just observers, the event was totally a blast!! Watching those people participate in games were fun and gave us a few laughs. The best part was... getting freebies!!! yehey!! Haha... I was so excited with the Pond's age miracle cream that I started using it the next day =P See the difference? =D

The event was so cool that I was motivated to create a blog =D (with the encouragement of my friend of course)

Well, hope there will be more of this. Am sure to attend the succeeding ones.

Btw, Pond's is holding a contest "myPond's 7-Day Beauty Blog". Check it out and get a chance to win an iPhone.

Banzai!!!

Whose wedding is it??

Well... actually, a friend of mine just got engaged a week ago. This week another friend of mine will be getting married. A cousin of mine attended a friend's wedding yesterday (which she almost forgot). So.... whose is it???

Drum roll please....

It's mine!! Yeah right... no it's not. This is actually a fake wedding cake. It's just Styrofoam underneath all the glamor. Haha.. my friends and I made this back when we were still studying in PWU. As I was browsing through my files, I found this picture and couldn't help but miss those memorable days. And since there's quite a number of people I know tying the knot, I thought of posting it. Hmmm... if I recall correctly, I think I had posted this picture somewhere before....
